American League Rookie of the Year

Luis Gil



Luis Gil won AL Rookie of the Year beating Colton Cowser and Austin Wells. Luis Gil, a pitcher for the New York Yankees, pitched his first full season putting up a 15-7 record in 29 games started. He struck out 171 hitters in 151.2 innings pitched but also walked 77 batters. Putting up a really good first half, he struggled in the second half and finished with a 3.50 earned run average. Gil only pitched 2 games in the playoffs giving up 6 runs in 8 innings pitched adding up to an 6.75 earned run average.

Colton Cowser



Colton Cowser barely lost the Rookie of the Year award just behind of Luis Gil but ahead of Austin Wells. Colton Cowser, an outfielder for the Baltimore Orioles, had a lower .242 batting average with an .321 on base percentage while striking out 172 times. Cowser really struggled with clutch hitting only putting up 69 runs batted in with the Orioles in 153 games. Cowser however did hit 24 home runs putting him in the running of Rookie of the Year. Cowser only had 7 plate appearances in the playoffs while getting only 1 hit putting up a .143 batting average.

Austin Wells



Austin Wells came in third place of Rookie of the Year behind Luis Gil and Colton Cowser. Wells got voted in because there wasn't much other good options for third place as Wells hit a low .229 batting average with a .322 on base percentage while playing 115 games. Wells rocked 13 home runs while driving in 55 runs with the New York Yankees in the regular season. Wells had a really hard time in the postseason however, getting 6 hits in 55 plate appearances, striking out 22 times. He had a .120 batting average and a .200 on base percentage but 2 of those 6 hits were home runs.
